"XD" is a classic example of Krell's ongoing research and development efforts reaping benefits across multiple product lines. During the development of the K-300i Integrated Amplifier we discovered substantial sonic improvements by reducing the output impedance below traditional standards. So we applied this technique to our existing line of amplifiers and the improvement was so substantial that it required a unique designation, hence "XD".
It was not easy to lower the output impedance. This affects the stability of the amplifier and the transient response, so each stage before the output stage had to be readjusted to work optimally with the lowest output impedance. This lower output impedance exerts greater control over the speaker drivers and dampens unwanted vibration modes, allowing for more accurate reproduction of the original signal. Ideal for driving the front channels of a very loud home theater system. level, the Trio 300 is an impressive next-generation 3-channel power amp based on the revolutionary iBias concept, an extremely innovative technology recently developed by Krell that combines the sonic sweetness of the A-Class with a power consumption substantially lower than that of the electronic ones based on the traditional version of it. The key to iBias technology is that it eliminates crossover distortion, thus making it possible for low-level details, timbral subtleties, and spatiality in music to be reproduced exactly the same as in an amplifier configured in Class A at traditional way. As a result, the Trio 175 delivers 300 watts per channel continuous power free from distortion and brimming with harmonic and dynamic micro-contrasts accompanied by the legendary current-handling capabilities of Krell amplifiers.
